2/11 My Favorite Oak Tree - Heavy Burden of Snow
Had about 4 more inches of snow during the early morning last night.
2/10 Classic Michigan Winter Scene
Had about 10 more inches of snow yesterday--just to freshen things up. If we need to have winter, this is the way it should look.
2/8 Ceiling Fan
Wasn't feeling very well yesterday and forgot about taking a picture till I was getting ready for bed. Quick got a camera and crawled in bed. I've been wanting to take this picture for a long time as I see it every day.
2/7 Snow on Snow
We're hitting our stride for snow now. Almost every day some. Tomorrow supplosed to get lots.
2/9 More Snow on Snow
Snowing hard all day today. Probably got about 10 inches worth.
2/6 Orchid Getting Ready to Bloom
But it's been very slow growing this winter--probably because the temp is low in the house for orchids. Probably will be another week or more before it opens.
2/1 Quilt in Progress
Barb has this quilt all scrunched up to sew the borders on. It's pretty big and barely fits on the sewing machine table.
2/2 Marking The Quilt
Getting ready to make it a quilt, and marking where she wants to put stops and starts of the quilting.
2/4 Finally Everything White Again
Had a nice snow overnight, and no wind for once. Good to see the ground covered again also.
2/5 Blue Shadows on White Snow
How does the sun cast blue shadows from gray trees, on white snow?
2/3 Three Forms of Frozen Water
Here's snow on top, then crystal ice, then solid or glare ice. Had some melting today, and the black pavement absorbs heat quicker, and it stopped in time to retain the snow on top.
1/30 Milkweed Still Standing
Looks like the seeds have all left the pods, but the strong stems and pods are still upright there in spite of severe weather we have in January.
1/28 Mouse View
This time, looking straight ahead on the floor under a table.
1/29 Salt Crystal
Large salt crystal from road salting fell on sidewalk. Nice donut.
1/26 Accidental Exposure
I was taking a shot at Madeline's reception and forgot I had the camera still set on a 15 frame/sec. burst. So, after a few frames I pulled the camera down, and this was captured in the process--it's the floor of the gallery and shadows from a nearby table.
1/25 Ice in Puddle
Cold overnight. Lots of small puddles that froze and have interesting crystal structures
1/23 Flowering Kale
Lovely spot to photograph--the produce area of the local Meijers.
1/22 Artificial Studio Flowers
I keep a vase full of artificial flowers I've found around the cemetery fences, and they help brighten up the room as well as providing photographic subject matter for days like today with almost constant drizzle/rain.
1/16 White Rose
And a freebie at that.
1/27 Another Mouse View
Gorgeous day today with dark blue skies. Not a cloud around.
1/24 Puddle Starting To Freeze
Unusually warm weather past few days, but today it was cooling off. Interesting textures from the slusshy ice/snow mix on the pavement.
1/21 Lights at KIA
Went to see a quilt exhibit this afternoon. Love these little lights and I've tried several times to get a good picture of them. I think this succeeded. Just laid the camera flat down on the base and took a blind shot looking up.
1/19 Dying Rose Petal
Some of the petals are dying and falling off. Interesting how different the pattern of the veins are from other plants.
1/20 Escape from the Wind
Quite windy yesterday--artificial flowers blew all over and settled in low places in the snow.
1/17 Salt Pattern on Roadside
Lots of salt patterns, especially when we get a warm spell.
1/18 Windy--Loose Balloons
Walking the back part of the cemetery--Dixie couldn't stop barking at them, even as we got closer. Looks like several of them popped already.
1/15 Pampas Grass Head Weighed Down with Snow
And it's even light fluffy snow.
1/14 Interesting Ceiling
In a store in the mall.
1/13 New Store Construction Behind Glass Wall
Walked the halls in the Mall today, instead of a treadmill. This store was under constructioin and the glass on front and black glass made a beautiful mirror.
1/10 Tree Reflections on Wet Pavement
Sudden warm temps and rain made a large reflecting surface of this new asphalt--just laid in November. It is very smooth and very black yet.
1/12 Sunset After the Storm
Finally stopped raining and turned to ice and snow overnight. Tonight the whole sky lit up with this sunset. Lots of trees in front, but in the winter they add some perspective.
1/11 Another Mirror Photo
The rain has continued and leaves my walkway like a mirror again. A little breezy and raining, so the surface is broken up a bit.
1/2 Christmas Lights Bokeh
Had to have at least one image with bokeh effects this year
1/3 Light at Olive Garden
Celebrating Alex's 17th birthday at OG. A favorite eatery of all of us.
1/5 Lights Reflecting in Ornaments on Wreath
Today is the 12th and last day of Christmas. I'll end it with a Christmas picture. This on taken early in the morning while the lights were on, on the big wreath in the window. Taken during morning Blue Hour.
1/4 Christmas Cactus
This crazy plant is blooming for the third time this fall and winter. Not near as many blossoms this time though.
1/6 Winter Patterns
You'll never guess where this was taken. If you think you know please leave a comment. Will be interesting if anyone has observed this phenomenon previously.
1/8 Another Winter Abstract
This is ice on new black asphalt pavement.
1/7 Converging Parallel Lines
1/9 Winter Trees Abstracted
Interesting technique to abstract and at the same time clarify the trees in the woods.
1/1 Handmade Beaded Bell
Ring in the new year with bells and cymbals
12/27 Homemade Ornament
Barb and I made several ornaments similar to this one, a year or two after we were married, so that makes them well over 50 years old, and displayed each year we've had a tree. Missed a few when we had gone to Florida or California for the winter a few years back. Amazing how well they have held up.
12/26 Beautiful but Frigid Cold
Snowed pretty much all day yesterday. Today, occasional lake-effect snow bands, mixed with sunshine.
12/24 New Snow for Christmas
Ornament hanging on a big spruce in back yard.
12/22 Our Big Oak Tree with Overcast Winter Sky
With a cold wind whipping in from the North, this oak stands tall and sturdy, with huge limbs over a foot in diameter. And, as scar still visible from a previous huge limb loss
