8/1 Pretty Dark Marigold
8/2 New Rubber Exercise Bands
Just got then today and left them in the sun for a while to sanitize.
8/3 Sunburst Lichen
There are several varieties--I don't think this is the powdery variety, but probably the Hooded variety.
8/3 Lawn Damage from Caged Raccoon
Caught the little stinker that was tearing down our bird feeder every night. The culmination was when he must have gotten caught in the fence around our garden and tore the back part.
8/3 Gladiolus
This is the same flower that I showed the bud on July 31. Very pretty.
8/4 Down But Not Out
This poor bunch of milkweeds was hit by some large animal--I won't say a name--a couple in the back are leaning, and this one in front on the pavement. There must still be some connection to the stem as it has apeared viable--especially on the top.
8/5 Slime Mold
Found on a wood chip fill around a tree. Very interesting color.
8/6 Kalamazoo River Above Marshall Dam
View looking upriver from Stuart's Landing.
8/6 Dam Spillway
This is at Marshall, MI on the Kalamazoo River.
8/6 Frog
Saw this guy sitting on an old log in the swampy back water of the dam on the Kalamazoo River at Marshall, MI. Didn't have a long lens with me.
8/7 Underside of Rotary Mower
Large mower on a city trailer getting ready for mowing operations today.
8/7 Heavy Dew
Everything was glistening with multiple tiny drops.
8/8 Tussock Moth Larva
Saw a loose piece of bark on a tree and pulled it away and this was hiding underneath. Still pretty cool out--sun was just up shortly before, so he didn't move much.
8/9 Pokeweed Blossoms
Berries starting to form. Later in the season they turn a beautiful deep purple color, and I think they make a good dye.
8/9 Crystal Ball View of Table
8/10 Monarch Just Coming Out of Chrysalis (#0)
Wings just unfolded. This is the chrysalis we received from Kay M.
8/10 Newborn Monarch
Just tagged, and waiting to get all systems ready for flight.
This baby just just got his wings expanded and is preparing to fly. He already has his tag on.
8/11 Tiger Swallowtail
On our butterfly bush.
8/12 Another Tiger Swallowtail
This on looks like he's been through a war, with both tails of the forewings missing and pieces out of both forewings in front. But he was flying without any problems.
8/12 Glistening Fence
We have a black plastic fence around our garden that occaionally gets torn--like last week when a raccoon got caught in it. This was the extra left hanging after we repaired the fence. The low afternoon sun just made it sparkle.
8/13 Jewelweed Flower
This is the spotted variety, also called Touch-Me-Not weeds because the seed pods spring open when touched, scattering the seeds widely. They grow in moist shady areas.
8/14 Huge Sunflower
Large sunflower at Gull Meadows Farm. We went to the sunflower field with paths and all sorts of sunflowers growing.
